Abbotsford Tragedy
The Abbotsford Pilots support the families who were affected by the tragedy that happened on the Sunday morning of February 14th, 2021. We were deeply sadden to hear this news, and want to give back to those who have lost everything. Please join us in supporting the families, and see the link for the GoFund me page.
A Message from the family:
We are a young family with two boys, Thomas and Philip, who lost everything in a devastating fire last night (February 14, 2021, in Abbotsford – Delair Road).
Now we have to start from scratch, like 10 years ago, when we emigrated to Canada – at least then we had two luggages and some clothes.
The loss is tragically experienced by our kids, who lost all their belongings, books, toys, piano, pets- two fish, favourite hockey jerseys, Lego, etc.
We have only 4 days to find a new place to live and start over, again. Also, we have to buy essential items for our family, especially for this cold season.
We appreciate every effort to support us and overcome this terrible time for our family. This is a time when we learn how to be grateful for the most simple human gestures and things in life!

ABBOTSFORD – The Abbotsford Pilots are proud to announce that forward Mason Smith and forward Hunter Brown have been selected to represent the Pacific Junior Hockey League in the 2020 Top Prospects game next weekend.
ABBOTSFORD – With the last home game of the 2019 calendar year taking place on Friday night, the Abbotsford Pilots (12-19-0-1) were shut out 2-0 by the visiting Richmond Sockeyes (20-8-1-4) at MSA Arena. Rookies were in the pipes with varying results. In his 7th straight start for the Pilots, Brock Machholz made 43 stops while Braedy Euerby of the Sockeyes made only 15 saves for his first shutout of the season. Richmond was able to keep the Pilots shot totals to single digits in each period, outshooting the home team drastically. The Sockeyes also had the bulk of power play attempts with 7 throughout the night, but neither team was able to capitalize.
1st Period:
The visitors opened the scoring 5:49 into the game with Garrett Wicks entering the offensive zone on the right wing. With the puck thrown down low, Nicholas Wilson tapped it into the slot where Mattias Hohlweg was stationed and he fired it for his 11th goal of the year.

2nd Period:
As the Sockeyes got set up in the offensive zone, Garret Wicks fed the puck to the right wing point for Chad Lore who unleashed a shot through traffic. Brock Machholz was not able to hang on the rebound and Michael Araki-Young retrieved loose puck and fired from the left circle for his 15th of the season at 11:03. Wicks was credited with the secondary assist, his second of the night.

ABBOTSFORD – Sean McCracken scored twice and Brock Machholz stopped 24 shots en route to the Abbotsford Pilots earning a win over the Port Moody Panthers 4-1 Friday night at MSA Arena. It was the second meeting of the season between the two teams, the Pilots now split the season series with the Panthers one game a piece and improve to a record of 12-17-0-1.
ABBOTSFORD – A fiery first period and a close effort from the visitors made for an exciting hockey game at MSA Arena. The Abbotsford Pilots came out with a win Friday night by a score of 4-3 over the visiting Delta Ice Hawks. Pilots netminder Brock Machholz stopped 39 shots for his second win in as many days. Ice Hawks rookie goalie Hunter Tarves was dealt his first loss of the season, putting aside 28 shots. Despite this, he remains one of the hottest goalies in the PJHL, sporting a 1.97 GAA at the conclusion the game.
BURNABY – After shutting out their opposition on Friday night, the Abbotsford Pilots (9-17-0-0) had the result reversed on Sunday getting blanked by the Grandview Steelers (17-7-2-2) by a score of 2-0. The Pilots were unable to capitalize on the power play, including an instance in the third period which saw Abbotsford produce one shot during a five minute major. Steelers goaltender Cale Dolan stopped 15 shots on the way to his league-leading 7th shutout of the season, while Brock Machholz of the Pilots faced 21 shots in his first appearance since November 15th.
ABBOTSFORD – Ending the month of November on a high note, the Abbotsford Pilots (9-16-0-0) shut out the White Rock Whalers (14-10-0-1) by a score of 4-0 at MSA Arena on Friday night. The win ends a four-game losing skid for Abbotsford, and improves the club to 18 points on the 2019-20 season. The Pilots top line of Jared Pitkethly, Alex Beechey, and Mason Smith were a force throughout the evening, recording one goal and one assist each. Abbotsford goaltender Noah Masog earned the shutout facing 36 shots, notching his first win since September 26th. Whalers goaltender Chris Akerman stopped 37 shots from the opposition.
LANGLEY – In their final visit to the George Preston Rec Centre on the schedule, the Abbotsford Pilots (8-12-0-0) were able to come out victorious over the Langley Trappers (10-9-1-0) Wednesday night by a score of 4-2. The effort was thanks in part to four unanswered goals scored by the Pilots in the first period. Brock Machholz made 25 saves between the pipes for Abbotsford, bringing his record so far in 2019/20 to an even 7-7-0. Ajeetpal Gundarah and Cooper Giesbrecht shared goaltending duties for Langley, with the latter being credited with the loss.
ABBOTSFORD – The Abbotsford Pilots have acquired D Jake Dowell and brother F Samuel Dowell from the Delta Ice Hawks in exchange for F Will Hazell-Penaluna.
PORT MOODY – Hitting the road on Saturday night, the Abbotsford Pilots (7-12-0-0) were not able to stop a late-game comeback by the Port Moody Panthers (5-10-1-0), dropping the result 4-2. It was the first meeting of the 2019/20 season between the two teams, and the Pilots’ first loss to the Panthers since December 9th, 2017. Tri-City Americans prospect Mason Dunsford was between the pipes in the win for Port Moody, backup Lachlan Griffin stepped in for relief in the final minute of play. Brock Machholz made 29 saves in the losing effort, his fifth consecutive start for the Pilots.
ABBOTSFORD – The Abbotsford Pilots are excited to announce that their Teddy Bear Toss Night is back for its 20th year! This year’s Toss Game will take place Friday, November 22nd at MSA Arena against the Langley Trappers.
ALDERGROVE – The Abbotsford Pilots (6-11-0-0) fell to the Aldergrove Kodiaks (6-8-0-2)by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday night. Despite going through a month which saw an eight-game winless streak, and dropping nine of a possible ten games, the Pilots did finish October with a silver lining as affiliate player Dalton Edwards notched two goals Wednesday, his first and second goals in the PJHL. In his third consecutive start for the Pilots, Brock Machholz stopped 28 shots while his counterpart Jonas Hamrin put aside 33 shots.
ABBOTSFORD – A less-than-ideal month continued for the Abbotsford Pilots (5-6-0-0) on Friday night as they suffered their fourth loss in a row, losing 4-2 to the visiting Richmond Sockeyes (10-1-0-0). Sockeyes captain Noah Kelly lead the way with the game winning goal, an assist, and first star honours. Richmond rookie goaltender Jacob Stone notched his fifth win in as many starts, facing 28 shots for the victory. Abbotsford’s Noah Masog had to stand tall, stopping 42 of Richmond’s 46 shots. The Pilots now sit winless so far in October.
ABBOTSFORD – In what was a highly anticipated matchup to kick off the month of October, the Abbotsford Pilots (5-4-0-0) were defeated 5-3 by the defending league champions North Vancouver Wolf Pack (9-1-0-0) on Friday night at MSA Arena. Despite scoring three straight in the second period to a hold a one-goal lead, North Vancouver scored three of their own in the third to snatch the victory. The Pilots were unable to capitalize on any of their six power play opportunities, instead conceding a Wolf Pack goal while on the man advantage, the eventual game winner. Wolf Pack netminder Eric Clark made 22 saves to improve to a 4-0-0 record while Noah Masog made his second start for the Pilots stopping 37 shots.
September 27th, 2019
ABBOTSFORD – The Abbotsford Pilots (5-2-0-0) continued with their winning ways Friday night at MSA Arena defeating the visiting White Rock Whalers (3-4-0-0) by a score of 4-3. Sean McCracken lead the way for the Pilots in scoring with two goals on the night, including the eventual game winner. White Rock’s rookies made a strong showing, as all 3 goals came from first year players. Brock Machholz got the nod between the pipes for Abbotsford putting aside 32 of 35 shots, while Jonathan Holloway faced 27 shots for the Whalers.
September 26th, 2019
SURREY – In their first visit to the brand new North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex, the Abbotsford Pilots (4-2-0-0) managed to snap a two game losing skid Thursday night by a score of 1-0 over the Surrey Knights (0-7-0-1). In his first appearance since being acquired by Abbotsford via trade on September 18th, goaltender Noah Masog recorded his first win as a Pilot stopping all 34 shots in the process. Knights goaltender Naveen Kainth put up an admirable performance, putting aside 31 of 32 shots and being named 2nd Star honours. This was Kainth’s 8th straight appearance in as many games for his club to start the season.
September 20th, 2019
ABBOTSFORD – A week removed from their last game, the Abbotsford Pilots (3-2-0-0) were unable to keep up with the Langley Trappers (3-5-0-0) on Friday night at MSA Arena. Trappers’ rookie goaltender Ajeetpal Gundarah stopped all 36 shots en route to his first career shutout. Brock Machholz put up 25 saves on the night and was named the game’s second star honours.
ABBOTSFORD – The Abbotsford Pilots have acquired goaltender Noah Masog from the Langley Trappers in exchange for future considerations.
ABBOTSFORD – Riding a three-game winning streak to start the season, victory was not in the cards for the Abbotsford Pilots on Friday night as they were handed their first loss of the season by the Aldergrove Kodiaks (1-2-0-0) at MSA Arena by a score of 4-2. Dylan Black was the winning goaltender, stopping 33 shots on the way to the Kodiaks’ first win of the season. The Pilots’ Brock Machholz faced 30 shots on the evening.
DELTA – The Abbotsford Pilots hit the road on Tuesday night to take on the Delta Ice Hawks. It was the first meeting between the two clubs since the preseason and it went the distance. Strong efforts from both clubs brought the game to double overtime where the Pilots emerged winners with a 3-2 score. Pilots captain Jared Pitkethly score the game winner and goaltender Brock Machholz made 35 saves in the victory, his third in as many games to open the season.
ABBOTSFORD – Hockey fans at MSA Arena on Friday night were treated with a taste of things to come for the Abbotsford Pilots’ season. In their home opener, the Pilots cruised steadily past the visiting Mission City Outlaws by a score of 6-1 highlighted by a tremendous offensive burst from various Pilots rookies.
LANGLEY – The Abbotsford Pilots fought through adversity, hung with the Langley Trappers, and opened up the 2019-2020 season with a 3-2 win at the George Preston Recreation Centre. In his regular season debut with the Pilots, Brock Machholz stopped 31 shots en route to his first win.

ABBOTSFORD – The Pilots preseason campaign is wrapped up thanks to a 7-4 win over the Delta Ice Hawks Friday night at MSA Arena. This was the second game of a home-and-home series, which saw Abbotsford falter by a score of 5-0 on Thursday night. Multiple goal performances were a theme as four players on the ice scored twice in the game.
DELTA – After nearly two weeks removed from their last preseason game, the Abbotsford Pilots could not find their footing Thursday night against the Delta Ice Hawks. The final score was 5-0

ABBOTSFORD – The Abbotsford Pilots Hockey Club, along with the Pacific Junior Hockey League, are proud to announce the schedule for the upcoming 2019-2020 regular season.
MAY 18, 2019 – Earlier this week, the Abbotsford Pilots acquired defenseman Tyson Goryniuk from the Port Moody Panthers in exchange for future considerations.
Goryniuk initially started his PJHL career with the Pilots in late 2017 before being dealt to the Panthers, appearing in 62 games and tallying 2 goals, 4 assists and 235 penalty minutes over 1 and a half seasons. Additionally, Goryniuk appeared in one game for the Nanaimo Clippers in the 2018-19 season.
The 2000-born Chilliwack native is a product of the Pursuit of Exellence Academy based in Kelowna, playing for their Varisty and U16 programs between 2015 and 2017.

LANGLEY – The Langley Trappers emerged victorious on Sunday afternoon over the Abbotsford Pilots, 4-3 the final score in Game #6 to close the first round series 4-2. All four Langley goals were scored on the power play. It was a back and forth affair with clubs exchanging goals throughout the afternoon and Langley never holding the lead until the end of the game. The eventual overtime winner was scored by Casey Whintors in the first overtime period. Trappers goaltender Kristian Lyon made 38 saves and was awarded 1st star honours. Abbotsford goaltender Keaton Dyck finished the afternoon with 25 saves. Langley will now face Grandview in the second round of the playoffs.

ABBOTSFORD – The Langley Trappers defeated the Abbotsford Pilots in Game 5 at MSA Arena on Friday night by a score of 5-3. Two-goal scorers were seen on both sides as Baylee Wright of the Pilots and Trevor Sundher of the Trappers both found the net twice. Kristian Lyon stopped 52 out of 55 shots en route to his clubs’ third straight postseason win, and third win in franchise history. The Trappers have now bounced back in the best-of-7 first round series and lead 3-2.

LANGLEY TOWNSHIP – The Langley Trappers finally notched their first playoff win of the series, successfully defending the George Preston Centre on Tuesday night by defeating the Abbotsford Pilots by a score of 4-1. Three straight goals in the first period from Corbin Genge, Sloan Kelly, and Brandon Rexhepi were the difference maker in the third game of the best-of-7 series, which Langley now trails 2-1. A flurry of penalties assessed to the Trappers in the final five minutes of play did not phase the home team. Goaltender Kristian Lyon made a total of 52 saves in the win.

Just over 24 hours after Game #1 was played, the Abbotsford Pilots repeated their winning ways over the Langley Trappers on Saturday night, defeating them 4-3 in Game #2 of their first round playoff series. A raucous crowed was on hand at MSA Arena as Keaton Dyck made 27 saves in the win. Kristian Lyon was credited with the loss however, backup goaltender Noah Masog had to step in for 13 seconds in the second period while Lyon had an equipment malfunction. Abbotsford now leads the series 2-0 as the play will shift to Langley on Tuesday and Wednesday night for Games 3 and 4.

The Abbotsford Pilots took down the Langley Trappers by a score of 4-2 on Friday night at MSA Arena to take Game #1 of their first round playoff series. The two Harold Brittain Conference foes meet by way of seeding, Pilots with the 4th playoff seed and the Trappers with the 5th. The night was highlighted by a two-goal effort from Baylee Wright, and goaltender Keaton Dyck credited with the win.

On the final home of the 2018-19 season, the Abbotsford Pilots (27-14-1-1) defeated the Port Moody Panthers (15-26-1-1) by a score of 5-1. Pilots captain Baylee Wright re-wrote junior hockey history in front of family and fans as he notched his 122nd point of the season, giving him the PJHL record for most points in a single season. Wright recorded four points on the night. Keaton Dyck recorded 22 saves for the win.

Game one of a home-and-home series saw the Abbotsford Pilots (25-12-1-1) emerge victorious over the Grandview Steelers (21-17-2-0) by a final score of 3-2. Will Hazell-Penaluna notched the game-winning goal at 4:49 of the 3rd period. Thomas Pickering and Jamie Housch also added tallies for the Pilots, who were backstopped by a 23 save effort from goaltender Keaton Dyck. Mateo Toledo and Tristan Olson were the goal scorers for the Steelers. The win snaps a two-game losing skid for the Pilots and is their 15th win at MSA Arena this season.

Friday night in Abbotsford saw the Pilots (24-11-1-1) fall by a score of 6-2 to the visiting Delta Ice Hawks (25-7-2-3). The loss saw Abbotsford snap a nine-game home win streak dating back to Nov. 2nd. Ice Hawks captain Jordan Deyrmenjian led his team with a goal and two assists while Pilots captain Baylee Wright notched an assist on the night. Jordy Engleson earned the win in goal for the Ice Hawks turning aside 22 of Abbotsford’s 24 shots while Keaton Dyck stopped 29 of 35 fired from the Delta Ice Hawks.

Several Abbotsford Pilots have received the nod for this year’s Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) Prospect’s Game. The league announced rosters on Wednesday afternoon and three players will participate.

Saturday night in White Rock the Abbotsford Pilots (23-10-1-1) shut out the White Rock Whalers (13-20-0-2) by a score of 4-0. Aidan Taylor got his 2nd straight win and first shutout in a Pilots uniform after being assigned to the team earlier in the week. It was a historic night for Pilots captain Baylee Wright who finished the night with three goals and an assist to become the first PJHL player since Josh Chapman of the Pilots in the 1998-99 season to surpass the 100 point mark. Wright finished the evening with 103 points on the season.

The Pilots will have a strong contingency at this year’s Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) All-Star Game. Rosters were unveiled by the league Tuesday morning and six players have been picked to represent Abbotsford.
Keaton Dyck (G), Tyler Wickman (D), Thomas Pickering (F), Cameron Obcena (F), Jake De Waal (F), and Baylee Wright (F) will all play for the Harold Brittain Conference team next week.
